I was born an animal lover! My dogs and horses have always been my babies. Growing up, our family pets always included an AKC purebred dog. At one time or another, we owned a German Shepherd, an Old English Sheepdog, a Maltese, a Miniature Schnauzer, a Lhasa Apso, a toy Poodle, as well as a Collie. We also owned horses, cows, chickens, and rabbits. I have raised, trained and showed over 30 horses in my lifetime. (See pictures below). While attending Kennesaw University from 1983-1989, I worked as a veterinary assistant. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1989. I have been employed by the Paulding County School System since 2000. My husband and I have been married since 1985. Our daughter will attend ABAC to become a veterinary pathologist, and our son hopes to get a football scholarship and then to become an anesthesiologist. Like my husband and I, both of our kids are very compassionate about animals. We love life in the country. In addition to the Shih Tzu, we raise hay and cows on over 200 acres. I am an active member of the Douglasville Kennel Club, the Georgia Canine Coalition, and the Tri-County Cattleman's Association. Every professional breeder should belong to a kennel club and should be involved in showing their dogs. After all, it is important to determine the quality of your own dogs, to study conformations, and to stay on top of breed-related issues. Lacy (1985) was my first AKC Shih Tzu. She was solely my pet. She was the love of my life for many years. When you adopt a Shih Tzu, that Shih Tzu becomes your child. A well-bred Shih Tzu does not shed. They are good for people with allergies. They are not yappy barkers. They are not hyperactive like the Jack Russell. They are not destructive dogs. They love kids, adults, and other animals. They are not temperamental. They love to sleep at your feet (or better yet, in your bed with you)! Despite many misconceptions, the Shih Tzu is easy to train. They want nothing more than to please you. They are the perfect size - not too fragile like a Yorkie or a Chihuahua. They look at you with their big adorable eyes of love, then it becomes a natural reaction for you to just scoop them up into your lap. It's no wonder they were bred to be the palace dogs of the Chinese emperors! Breeding is a passionate, (and expensive) hobby for me. I have met and been blessed by fellow Shih Tzu lovers from all walks of life. I always pray that my puppies will go to those people who are most deserving of the joy and blessings that these angels bring. A piece of my heart leaves with each and every one of my babies. I have been blessed with undeniable testimonies of GOD at work in my life. As a professional breeder, I strive to produce my next AKC CHAMPION. Too many 'backyard' breeders simply breed dogs to sell puppies, with little concern about the quality or welfare of their dogs, let alone the welfare of the breed. They are the ones who claim to sell "Imperials" or "Tea-Cup Shih Tzus". (BY THE WAY, THE AKC SHIH TZU SHOULD WEIGH BETWEEN 9 AND 16 POUNDS AT MATURITY!) Backyard breeders are willing to accept Pay Pal, and ship their puppies, with no concern (cont'd next column) |
Testimonial about my kennel and dogs:
about where the puppy will actually end up going. They are not concerned with meeting their buyers. They could care less about letting anyone see their facilities or their dogs. At Rocking K, quality and compassion are the RULE. My selective breeding program speaks for itself. I own no more than 12 Shih Tzu and some of those are spayed and retired. I am the breeder of the 2009 Eukanuba Award of Excellence Winner as well as many other top winning AKC Champions. Rocking K is an officially AKC recognized, licensed kennel, where you are always welcome to meet the parents of the puppies. |

A few pictures of my home life with my family and my beloved Shih Tzu"We all have a deep love for animals and take the responsibilities equally, whether it's bottle feeding calves, feeding the horses and cows, or taking care of our Shih Tzu." |
